Inadequate range January 4, 2009 Kokopelli (Austin, TX) This phone had some major inadequacies, one that was a deal breaker, and several that were big disadvantages compared to the phone it was supposed to replace. The deal breaker was that the handset in my bedroom was out of range from the base in the living room. This has never been a problem with any other phone I've had, so I don't think it's inherent in the house, which is about 3,000 sq. ft. That makes me think it probably wouldn't reach outside either, which my other phone did fine. Other disadvantages compared to the other phone: the digital numbers were difficult to read, not only because of their rather primitive configuration but also because of the orange background and the light gray print; there was no full color; the only readout was in the handset, i.e., there was no additional readout on the base itself so if the handset is somewhere else, you can't see who is calling; there is no indication of whether there are messages or how many there are (you have to push "messages" to find out); there was no voice announcement of the incoming call's number, which is really handy when you're across the room from the phone. So I'm sending the phone back and looking for one just like the one I'm replacing, which, by the way, has finally started acting weird after about eight years of use. All in all, though, this phone seems to work fine except for the things I've mentioned, but if you have a large house, I definitely would not recommend it because of the range problem.
Great Phone! January 3, 2009 K. Conner (NJ) My husband & I have a had several portable phones and this is by far the best one. We got this one at BJ's when we were members and has served us well. Right now we have wall jack issues even though we get all of our service through our cable provider so we have the base in the second bedroom, which serves as an office. One phone is in our bedroom and the other in the basement room so the one from the base is on the main floor. It rarely needs charging even after several days being off the base. I need to get an extender phone, but it seems kind of expensive...half the cost of the full system! I'm not crazy about the audible phone message system, but it's ok. Would like it if it displayed the number of messages. My husband hates using it as an answering machine, and he never plays the messages. However, I do like that you can pick up messages from the phone itself and it shows when you have messages. I don't like that you can turn off the answering machine system with a touch of the button on the top of the base, and this recently happened and took a minute to figure out. Otherwise, this has served us well for at least three years, which is better than some other appliances/electronics!
Great Quality, Cant be easier to setup and use January 3, 2009 S. Vasireddi (Texas) Crisp & Clear voice quality, great feature set and their durable build make this cordless package optimal for everybody looking for a cordless phone system. These are easier to setup and use (the on handset menu system could have been more intuitive).
Mediochre Overall January 2, 2009 Max Headroom (Midpines, CA United States) Sound is clear, but no volume control. No redial button. Range is less than I thought it would be. Battery life is very good. Answering system only has a flashing light when there is a msg waiting - there is no audible indicator (a beep, or something). Died after 15 months.
Best purchase this year January 1, 2009 N -- (Finger Lakes NY) I purchased this system for my dad. He had an accident two years ago and has limited use and feeling in his hands. These phones have nice big buttons, everything is clearly marked and they are very easy to set up and use. I like that he has a phone at each end of the house and can keep one with him at all times. If one is off the charger for a long time he can just switch it with one of the others. The long standby time is great for when he forgets to put one back on its charger. With a 50 number phone book and 50 number caller ID he hardly ever has to actually dial a number, but if he does the buttons are big enough that he can feel them and get it right the first time. The handsets are very lightweight and run on regular AAA rechargable batteries, so if they stop holding a charge one day they can easily be replaced. He told me that the phones have been working great and he gets no static no matter where in the house he goes.
