Product Description In a volatile economy, there's one utility you can save with the aid of VOIP technology - your phone service costs. Smart and stylish, the ooma Hub and ooma Scout partner with your high-speed Internet and your existing home phones to deliver free home phone service. Your one-time purchase eliminates monthly bills for U.S. calling and delivers extremely low rates for international calls. Your one-time purchase of an award-winning ooma Hub device frees your phone service. Call anyone, at any number, anywhere in the U.S. without charge. Think how much you pay the phone company each year. Now imagine what you could do with all the money you save.
Ooma is the only company in the history of the telecom industry that lets you own your dialtone. Your one-time ooma purchase eliminates monthly charges for unlimited US calling. Compared to other stand-alone VoIP providers, there are no monthly fees for US calling. Plus, the ooma system has been architected to deliver exceptional voice quality and reliability, giving you the crisp, acoustic performance of a landline, without the associated fees. A number of our customers have reported that ooma delivers "excellent voice quality," "better than landline." Easy-to-read manuals are full of colorful diagrams and simple instructions to make set-up as painless as possible. It takes the average customer less than 20 minutes to activate and install the ooma system. Using the ooma system is even easier! ooma devices have been designed to provide an intuitive out-of-box experience. Ooma can move your number from your current phone provider for a one-time fee of $39.99. To use the ooma Hub device, you need TWO things: 1. A high-speed Internet connection (cable/DSL/fiber-optic); and 2. A home phone.

No Customer Support January 5, 2009 A. Almonte 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just want to echo what a few other people are saying about this "company". Just try calling customer support (888-711-6662) before you buy. I've called and have been put on hold for HOURS only to be disconnected EVERY time. I have yet to speak a live person and so far none of my emails have been answered. And I haven't subscribed to this service yet. If this is how they treat their prospective customers, I can imagine how they treat their subscribers once they already have their money.
Inattentive customer service & technical problems make the product unusable January 5, 2009 Angela G. (Mad Town, WI USA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
We have had the Ooma device at home for several months, as the only home phone service (read: no landline but individuals with cell phones). For approximately a month we have had problems receiving telephone calls through Ooma. First, the problem seemed only to be a delay of approximately 10 seconds between the time we picked up the telephone and the time we heard the caller. It occurred sporadically. Now, it is frequent for us to not get a large percentage of calls at all - they go straight to voicemail without any ringing. (Note that while Ooma has a "direct to voicemail" setting we have never used it.) Our connection (DSL) meets Ooma specifications and we have carefully followed the manual in setting up the hardware. Customer service received from Ooma has been minimal. When calling for support, I have always waited approximately 20 minutes. Once or twice I got through to a customer service rep; all other times I was directed to a voicemail system, left a message, and received no response. I have been corresponding with a CSR via E-mail about this problem but received a canned reply copied from the FAQ web page followed by no useful help. If you sincerely believe that you will have no problems following setup of your Ooma system during the years-long lifetime allotted to the hardware, Ooma may be for you. Please, though, be warned. Once Ooma has your money for the hardware and you have reached the point where it is not returnable to the retailer, they have no financial motivation to give you customer service unless you subscribe to their "premier" add-on telephone services. If you provide them no additional income, they receive no benefit from giving you additional (costly) customer service from their employees. Please reconsider if you are thinking of purchasing the Ooma system; even if you set up everything properly and Ooma works at first, it is no guarantee of continued success. We believed we were doing a financially responsible thing by investing in Ooma's hardware and replacing the landline with their service. Now we sincerely regret this decision and hope you will not make the same mistake.
Super Slimy Deceptive Product Description January 4, 2009 RG (Hawaii) 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
Why do telco companies have to be so dishonest? That "they all do it" seems to be a horrible excuse. Ooma's product description here at Amazon, and on their own website is CRIMINALLY deceptive - one can only hope that with the change the majority of Americans voted for in Washington will produce a change in the lack of oversight of American business. As has been stated in a small number of the reviews already posted here - A) OOMA DOES NOT HAVE phone numbers in all areas of the country. Their website and Amazon description have no mention of this - the text all implies that it doesn't matter where you are in the US or what phone number you have - you can get a local number from Ooma. But nothing could be further from the truth. FLAT OUT LIE. (try find ANY number in Hawaii - impossible.) B) Unlimited is not unlimited. They tell you - without qualification - here at Amazon and on their website that you get "unlimited" calling. But you do NOT get unlimited calling - there is a limit. FLAT OUT LIE. Some apologists (employees?) here post glowing reviews and diss those that expose the lies by saying "all the telecom companies" do it (lie). Please. The lies have got to stop and I for one can't wait until the lying cheating culture of the current American generation (Madoff / Wall Street) is brought to justice. Ooma's employees included. BIG FINES and people need to go to jail. Jump over to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) website and anyone who understands English will understand that Ooma - and Amazon by hosting their ads - is acting unlawfully by engaging in deceptive advertising: "What makes an advertisement deceptive? According to the FTC's Deception Policy Statement, an ad is deceptive if it contains a statement - or omits information - that: * Is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances; and * Is "material" - that is, important to a consumer's decision to buy or use the product." Saying you can get a phone number that you can't is misleading, has misled customers and is very material to customer decision to purchase. Anyone who thinks that their purchase of an Ooma product will deliver the rest of what they promise ("perpetual" "free" calling even with a limit) --- I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. When the business plan doesn't work and Ooma's Ponzi scheme (selling hardware brings in the monehy to operate the free calling - when the sales of hardware slows down, when they are forced to pay fines for their lies) breaks - a lot of people will be left holding worthless useless equipment that provides zero service......
You Can't Go Wrong! January 4, 2009 Russell Collins Jr. (Winooski, VT USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
In one word, WOW! ooma was so easy to set up. I was up and running in less than 15 minutes. I have made many long distance, in state, and local calls to test the sound quality. It was great. Crystal clear sound, better than the landline I ditched. Why worry about the company's business model? They have a super management team. ooma will pay for it self in less than 3 months in my case. You really have nothing to lose. I bet you this company will be in business for a long time and that they will come up with many more features such as video, who knows what else. I have never done a review of a product before, but had to with this. Will update in future, if anything has changed.
Amazing VOIP Solution January 3, 2009 S. Vasireddi (Texas) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was amazed by 2 things with this system. 1. Voice clarity, even with a low bandwidth internet connection. 2. Ease of setup and use. It cant get any more simpler than this. Another thing to note is its packaging which includes everything needed to setup the system (including the phone and ethernet cables) and not to forget the stylish boxes. Without any monthly subscription fee, this is the best VOIP solution I could ask for.
