The other day I changed the Video Card / Graphics to HTPC I have in my classroom. He had nearly four years an nVidia 7600 GS with 256 megs and passive cooling.
So far the nVidia never gave me problems. He moved with ease any video file to send him to play and in games with few pretensions fairly well behaved. So taking advantage of ATI was a good price the passively cooled 4550, I got one for 40 Euros and I made the substitution. The truth is that it had much more to choose from. The change has been fairly straightforward. Remove a card to another, updating the drivers and test it. Now the Full HD files that stuck to the nVidia reproduce smoothly and the game works perfectly for my children. And now I see that the graph is heated less than the previous model. Fortunately, progress is not only more powerful, but also lower power.
I silvering I really mount a more powerful graphics, but I feel sorry, because then I do not play ever in the room.
