Working for the Devil

There are times that my partner takes a tremendous pissed, because as he says, takes all day working for the devil. And there are seasons when it seems that Satan too remember us and the shop becomes a branch of hell.

These weeks we had a lot of work for the Devil (ie work that is good for almost anything and of course there is no charge):

– A high-end HTPC with touchscreen. The display there is no way that it works. We had assembled and disassembled three times and sent to the SAT as many. Every time we install multiple operating systems also looking for the solution.

– A PC that went with Linux. He had Wifi N card (I am preparing a post about the wireless N and Linux), TV tuner and remote control. After configuring all the peripherals, in the final tests, the motherboard dies. Is dismantled and sent to the SAT. No plates alike, we make a payment. We spent two days calling all vendors for the same motherboard. Finally locate one with the same characteristics but different manufacturer. Reassemble the PC and the TV tuner works intermittently. At the end we set up another different tuner. But with the wireless N, the same thing again.

– A high-end PCs, we spent over a month waiting for a key component. When it comes, assemble and configure. All right. We pass stress tests, everything perfect. And when I’m installing a couple of game demos and pasting the last look, my partner and preparing for transport stickers … choff ago (literally) and off. To dismantle everything and see what has been broken. And still have not found what went wrong

– A high-end printer, which breaks out of warranty. Since it was a very expensive machine and now companies are not to spend much, since in accordance with the customer the SAT sent to the manufacturer’s fault that we budgeted. Disassembled, crated and sent to a printer that weighs over 50 kilograms. The SAT budget we passed a very good (only 60 Euros) so I accept the reparation. After a few days we reached the printer. We go to client offices. More than an hour setting up the printer again, shaping … and when we finished, it still does not print that. Again removed, to packing, to send the SAT and repeat the entire installation.

– And the last straw yesterday afternoon. A HTPC precious, almost two weeks waiting for the box. It comes, install, configure and started testing. All right, so we tested the connections. The front USBs do not work. Other USBs plugged front of another box and they work well, then the problem is in the box not on the motherboard. It turns out that these USBs are an integral part of the box. We can not change them. So again to dismantle everything and send it to the SAT for us to change the box. And gives us now fear the time it may take the SAT test the USBs.

So I understand the faces that my partner and fellow shop make me some days when I get to the store because they are all day working for the devil. But please, that the Devil take a vacation soon …
